about

It was the date on which democracy was still beginning in Venezuela, the departure of dictator Marcos Pérez Jiménez was still fresh. The daily life continued its course, in the artistic field the great orchestras enlivened the ballroom dances and shows in Caracas, the most popular at that time, were the Billos Caracas Boy’s and Los Melodicos. However, within the House that Defeats Shadows, a new group was born that would be in fashion and would be known as The Engineering Group.

The Engineering Complex emerged at the end of the fifties and beginning of the sixties of the 20th century. at the initiative of a group of students from the School of Engineering of the Central University of Venezuela. The idea for the formation of the Engineering Complex comes from Luis Torrealba and Antonio Daza. After some restructuring, the group is made up of Ismael Da Costa (conductor), Tirso Gutiérrez (trumpet), Juan José Herrera (trumpet), Manuel Felipe Rincón (vibraphone), Carlos Rengifo (piano), Luis Cebeddu (electric guitar), Juan Márquez (bass), Jorge Chirinos (tumbadora) and Glauco Chierrichetti (drums). Although the style of the group was that of dance bands such as Los Melodicos or the orchestra led by maestro Billo Frómeta, they played an important role in the nascent rock genre in Venezuela by recording a version of the Little Darling song (original version of the group The Gladiolas and brought to success by the Canadian band Diamonds). This theme was published in single format and under the name of Queridita (1959), being one of the first records of rock music in Venezuela. Later they edit the album Conjunto Ingeniería (1961) where tropical dance pieces predominate, along with a piece entitled Amiguito in which the style of ballads performed by musicians such as Elvis Presley is followed.

With the departure of Jorge Chirinos and the entry of Efraín Bolívar (tumbadoras), they recorded their second album: Here Is El Conjunto Ingenieria (1962), which was followed by their last recording: Boogaloo Con Ingenieria (196?).
